Forte Cantabile Tempo Doremifasolacido, and “Piano”.
Most of the many terms that exist in music are Italian.
Why has Italian become the mainstream language to this day?
There are various theories as to why, but here I will introduce two representative ones.
①European Renaissance
Innovative cultural movements took place during a period of transition in European society from the 14th to the 16th centuries.
It's called a renaissance.
This is similar to the civilization and enlightenment of the Meiji period in Japan, a movement that created a new culture while inheriting the culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
This renaissance gave rise to new forms in many areas of art, including literature, art, and architecture.
Music was no exception, and the music known as classical music was established at this time.
Italy was the center of this Renaissance.
(The explanation of why Italy was the center of the Renaissance is a bit long, so I won't go into it here.)
As a result, new forms of music were expressed in Italian and spread.
This is one of the reasons why musical terminology is Italian.
②Establishment of Christianity and staff notation
Christianity has hymns.
Therefore, in order to properly spread Christianity, it was necessary to spread the sounds and expressions of hymns correctly.
Just as words have dialects, even if you imitate them based on their sounds, there will always be some quirks.
To solve this problem, we needed an easy-to-understand musical score.
Therefore, staff notation was born in Italy, the center of Catholicism.
Musical notation expressed in Italian quickly spread to Europe and is still used to this day.
This is another reason why Italian is used as a musical terminology.
As a side note, most of today's programming languages are in English because they originated in English.
I hope it will be an opportunity for you to fall in love with music again.
