About the 5W1H goals that should be decided when starting piano as an adult

adult piano

It's a great idea to start playing the piano as an adult.

Trying new things can be expected to activate your brain and body and prevent aging.

However, unlike when we were children when it was easy to absorb new things, it takes time for our minds and bodies to remember things.

This means that they will have to spend more time and basic training than children.

If you get tired of this or it becomes a hassle and you move on to the next step, things will not go well in the end.

This may cause you to get frustrated.

What I want adult piano beginners to keep in mind is goals.

If you have a clear goal in mind, you won't be easily discouraged.

However, even if it is just a goal,

“I want to be able to play that song like that person is playing it.”

This is not a good goal because it is weak and easily broken.

Since you are an adult, you need to be clearer when setting goals.

Now, I will explain what kind of goals you should set and why goals are important.

table of contents

  • 5W1H of goal setting that you should never miss
    • ①What:What
    • ②When:When
    • ③Where:Where
    • ④Who: Who
    • ⑤Why: Why
    • ⑥How: How
    • Finally, connect the words to form a sentence.
  • At the end

5W1H of goal setting that you should never miss

I'm sure you've heard the term "5W1H".

This is an element that should not be ignored mainly when writing sentences or talking to people.

  1. What:What
  2. When:When
  3. Where:Where
  4. Who: Who
  5. Why:Why
  6. How: how

Even if you are planning to start playing the piano as an adult, make this clear when setting your goals.

Rather than vaguely saying, ``I want to get better at playing the piano,'' it will be a more determined goal if you can think of a specific situation

Take a moment to set a rough goal for yourself.

I will explain them step by step with examples.

①What:What

First is "What."

“Of course I’ll play the piano.”

That's what I thought, but it's still abstract and weak. Let's think more concretely.

Here you need to think about the song title and melody (what kind of song it is).

It would be best if you could name a specific song, but if you don't have one, you can use something like "healing music" or "JPOP."

As an example, let's use "Entertainer" as an example.

②When:When

Next is "When".

This is the "specific scene" mentioned earlier.

I think it won't take much time if you have a clear idea of the specific scene in which you'll be playing the piano.

In particular, think about when you would do the things you associated with ①.

As an example, let's use "Sunday night".

③Where:Where

Next is "Where".

Please write down where the piano is located and what kind of scene you imagine it will be played in.

Some people might say "at work" or "at a concert hall," but for many people it might be "at home."

As an example, let's say "in my living room".

④Who: Who

Next is "Who".

In the case of this goal, if it is a general 5W1H, I think that "me" would naturally be the answer.

However, here it becomes clearer if we say "Whom".

Of course, improving your skills for yourself is an admirable goal, but if you set your goal to perform for someone else, it's easier to become more determined, and to put it in the extreme, it's easier to create a sense of mission.

As an example, let's use "To a child".

⑤Why: Why

Next is "Why."

This item is the most important part of goal setting, and it is the point that must be made clearest.

The clearer your “why,” the stronger your goals will be.

Please think back to why you chose the four items above.

I think that's your goal and your purpose.

As an example, let's say ``I want to make you feel bright.''

⑥How: How

Finally, there's "How."

I think once you get to this point, the words will come out naturally without having to imagine them.

What kind of piano do you want to play?

Please keep it simple.

Here, as an example, let's say ``I feel like I'm feeling energized.''

Finally, connect the words to form a sentence.

Connect all the words from ① to ⑥ to make a sentence.

Connecting with the words I gave as an example

``I want to brighten up my child's mood on Sunday night, so I play entertainers that will lift their spirits in my living room.''

It becomes.

At the end

The sentences created here will definitely help you improve your piano playing.

It's a good idea to write it down on paper or on your smartphone so you don't forget.

Of course, there is no problem if your goals change along the way.

The important thing is to clearly imagine yourself playing the piano.

Please try practicing the piano towards a bright future.
