Privia Px-S1000 is a popular CASIO electronic piano that is slim and feature-rich. Speaking of CASIO, until recently, cheap keyboards were mainstream, and there were many products that could not be said to be of excellent quality as pianos, but it seems that those days are over.
The Privia series is a famous CASIO brand that has been around for about 15 years. Personally, I feel that this brand in particular has enough technology to compete with big companies like Yamaha, Roland, and Kawai, and is actually superior in many aspects.
This time, I would like to review the Px-S1000, which is popular among the Privia series, while explaining its excellent features.

Feature summary
First of all, among the features of the Px-S1000, the following four points are personally superior to others.
- ・Slim, lightweight and sleek design
- - Highly rated key touch using smart scaling hammer action keyboard
- ・Beautiful sound with high reproduction of grand piano
- ・Wide range of connectivity including USB and Bluetooth
There are many other small points, but I think these are the reasons why it is particularly excellent and popular as a digital piano.
We will look at each in detail.
Slim, lightweight and sleek design
The "S" used in the name of Px-S1000 stands for "slim". As its name suggests, the Px-S1000 is surprisingly slim in size compared to other digital pianos.
The spec size is width 132.2 x depth 23.2 x height 10.2 cm , but what is especially surprising the depth .
Compared to the standard size PX-160, it is about 6cm slimmer.
It also weighs 11.2kg , which is quite light compared to other digital pianos in the same price range.
I think it's light enough compared to KORG's popular model B2 (11.4 kg) and YAMAHA's popular model P-125 (11.8 kg).
Until now, there has been a focus on size and lightness, but on top of that, there is no omission in the design either. As you can see in the image, it has a pretty smart design.
The back of the keyboard has a mirror finish, and the rest of the keyboard has a matte texture. The corners are rounded while still giving it a sharp look, giving it a smart look. After all, the diagonal lines running from the front to the back are very beautiful when viewed from an angle.
Unfortunately, the keyboard is made of plastic. The exterior doesn't look cheap like it did a while ago, and has a moderately matte ivory-like finish. However, it's still plastic, so it's best not to have too high expectations.
Key touch that is highly rated by the general public
The keyboard is called the "Smart Scaling Hammer Action Keyboard" and reproduces a high-quality touch. This touch is generally appreciated by online shops and blogs around the world. Personally, I can say that this keyboard is more than adequate considering its slimness.
However, I feel that the quality is inferior to digital pianos that are one step higher, especially those from Roland and Korg. This is a keyboard with excellent cost performance and size performance.
The official website states, ``By digitally controlling the volume of sound for each key, it is possible to perform with the feeling of playing a grand piano.''
The lower the notes on the left, the heavier the keys, and the higher the notes, the lighter the keys. Of course, it's not that extreme, but I can feel the commitment to reproducing a grand piano here as well.
The touch sensitivity has 5 levels and 6 levels including OFF, so even beginners can play with the weight that suits them. Personally, I think level 5 is just right. This is not a setting that can be changed from time to time, so it may be a feature that has little meaning other than the first time. Also, if you are a beginner and want to play the same way on a grand piano or upright piano, we recommend setting the level a little higher from the beginning.
beautiful sound
This work completely updates the sounds previously used in CASIO's px series. As a result, the improvement in sound quality is surprising and can be said to be very good.
Personally, I find that the sound is much better when I pronounce two or more notes. Furthermore, new technology allows the way the subsequent sound resonates to change depending on the strength of the keystroke (sound). With my average ears, I couldn't really tell the difference, but what do you think?
There are 18 types of sounds (including bass only), and you can change the instrument to match the melody, such as jazz or pop, to further enhance the atmosphere.
There is a sound demo for 17 sounds, so if you are interested, please give it a listen. (*Be careful of volume)
There is also an effect that allows you to control the degree of sound reverberation (echo). There are four types of effects, and you can fine-tune the size of each effect.
The speakers installed in the Px-S1000 are equipped with two 8W amplifiers. I think the speakers are close to the limit for an electronic piano of this size.
Broad connectivity
Although it has become common these days, the Px-S1000 also has the ability to connect to various tools.
earphone jack
First of all, there are two standard 6.3mm jacks. 6.3mm is a commonly used size for musical instruments, and has a slightly larger terminal than those found on music players and smartphones. This is separated into L and R, so there are two jacks. For example, when connecting to large speakers, you will need to use both jacks.
It also has a regular earphone jack. When you wear earphones, the sound from the speakers is muted. Therefore, you can practice indoors such as in an apartment or at night without worrying about bothering your neighbors. By the way, even when the earphone terminal is attached, you can output the sound from the speaker with a single button, so you can always leave it connected and switch the sound output depending on the situation.
USB
Px-S1000 has a type B USB terminal. If you connect it to a computer etc. using this terminal, you can output it as a MIDI sound source. One use of this simple output is to create musical scores. Recently, there is software that automatically inserts notes into musical scores from MIDI, and you can easily compose music using this software. There are surprisingly many other things you can do, such as recording on your computer and making adjustments.
Bluetooth
Finally, there's Bluetooth. This allows you to easily connect to your smartphone or tablet. You can directly save it as music data on your smartphone.
One thing to note is that this output only supports audio data. Please note that MIDI output cannot be performed using Bluetooth.
Other rich functionality
So far I have introduced the features that I personally like, but of course these are not the only features. For example, it also has the following functions:
- Recording possible inside Px-S1000
- You can change the key and adjust the octave.
- It is possible to divide the keyboard into two parts that produce the same pitch.
- Comes with metronome function
- Damper pedal included from the beginning
For those who are thinking of buying an electronic piano but don't know which one to buy, I think this is definitely a product you can't go wrong with.
It's not a cheap purchase, but you won't regret it.
