In music and sheet music, there are piano chords or simply chords.
In this article, we will explain the major and minor chords that are typical for this chord.

What are piano chords?
Can you explain what a piano chord is in the first place?
A piano chord is a representation of a chord as it is played on the piano.
So what is a code?
A chord is described as a ” Chord ” in English, which is the Japanese word for “harmony.
A chord is three or more notes played simultaneously.
Let’s try to keep pressing “Do Mi So” at the same time.
This is now one code.
Role of the Code
The role of the chord, to put it plainly, is to ” create the mood of the song.
It makes it easy for the listener to understand whether the song is bright, dark, or sad.
Just by adding a chord (chord) in the left hand where the right hand is playing the melody, the song becomes thicker.
And to put this in reverse, we can break down the partials into chords based on the characteristics of the song.
For example, a piece of music played by a classical orchestra can be expressed to some extent with a single piano score, despite the use of various instruments.
This is because the principal notes in those various instruments (those expressing lightness, darkness, etc.) are broken down into chords.
Many of these chords, especially those corresponding to the left hand in the score, are arranged and decorated.
Before the list of piano chords
Before introducing piano chords, I will explain what you should remember.
Here it is.
It is the alphabetical name of “Doremifasolacido”.
Do Remifasolacido” = “C D E F G A B C”.
Note that the “Do” starts with C, and after that it is in alphabetical order, but after G it goes back to A.
Code names are generally represented by alphabetical names.
Therefore, by memorizing the sounds and the alphabet, you can easily learn the chords.
For example, the “C” chord is a chord with the alphabetic name “C”, so it is a chord centered on “Do”.
Similarly, the “Fm” chord is a chord with the alphabetic name “F”, so the chord is centered on “F”.
Piano Chord List
There are so many different types of codes.
The same piano chord can be played in several different ways by combining notes.
I have not counted them, but I think there are more than several hundred types.
In this article, we will introduce some of the most commonly used major andminor chords.
major chord
code name (of a product under development) | corresponding sound | Keyboard Location |
C | Do mi so. C.E.G. | ![]() |
D | Les fa # la D, F♯, A | ![]() |
E | Mi so # si E, G♯, B | ![]() |
f | Fa la. F.A.C. | ![]() |
g | so-and-so G. B. D. | ![]() |
A | La de # Mi A, C♯, E | ![]() |
B | Si-Re # Fa # B, D♯, F♯ | ![]() |
A characteristic of major chords is that they are easily perceived as “bright”.
Different people perceive it differently, but a large number of people will be in a cheerful mood when they hear all the major chords.
minor code
code name (of a product under development) | corresponding sound | Keyboard Location |
Cm. | de re # so C, D♯, G | ![]() |
Dm. | Le Fa La. D. F. A. | ![]() |
Em | Mi-Soo Shi E. G. B. | ![]() |
Fm | Fa la # Do. F, A♯, C | ![]() |
Gm. | So La # # Re G, A♯, D | ![]() |
Am | La de mi A. C. E. | ![]() |
Bm | # si re fa # B, D, F #’s | ![]() |
Contrary to major chords, it is characterized by a “dark” and “sad” feeling of sound.
I think many people find it uniquely dissonant.
How to memorize major and minor chords
Among the many chords, these major and minor chords are the most commonly used, but there is actually a simple way to learn them.
Since these are three chords, we will describe the three notes as (1), (2), and (3).
major chord
- ①: Keyboard corresponding to alphabetical names
→If it is “G”, it is “G” in the alphabetical name, so “So”.
- (2): “4 ” keys ahead from the keyboard in (1) with the black key in (2).
→If it’s “G”, then from “S” in (1), “S♯”, “La”, “La♯”, then “C” after “S♯”.
- (iii): “3” keys ahead from the keyboard in (ii) with the black key in (iii).
→If it is “G”, then “C” in (2) to “Do” and “Do #” next “Re”.
minor code
- ①: Keyboard corresponding to alphabetical names
→If it is “Cm”, it is “C” in the alphabetical name, so “Do”.
- (2): “3” keys ahead from the keyboard in (1) with the black key in (2).
→ “Cm” would be from “Do” in (1) to “Do #” and “Re #” next to “Re #”.
- (iii): “4 ” keys ahead from the keyboard in (2) with black keys.
→If it is “Cm”, the next “so” after “mi”, “fa”, and “f♯” from “le♯” in ②.
These are the ways to remember.
It’s easy.
As long as you know the notes on the keyboard, you can play them in any order.
For example, the “C” chord is “do-mi-so,” but “mi-so-do” or “so-do-mi” would also be the same “C” chord.
These were the explanations of major and minor chords.
Better to get used to it than to learn it. Try playing chords from easy songs to get a feel for them.
